Mayrhofen - Hippach

Mayrhofen - Hippach

The Mayrhofen-Hippach Holiday Region lies in the figurative heart of the Zillertal. From small villages to the region’s capital – the city of Mayrhofen – everyone will find something for the perfect summer or winter holiday experience. Whether you prefer the solace of nature or action and adventure in the mountains and valley, the Mayrhofen – Hippach Holiday Region will not disappoint.

With its exceptional variety and outstanding features, Mayrhofen is excellently prepared to start the 2018/19 winter season. Once again, this extensive skiing area with its 136 piste kilometres and 58 lifts leaves nothing to be desired. Two fascinating extremes are situated right on the doorstep – Action Mountain Penken and Leisure Mountain Ahorn. Penken offers highlights such as the Harakiri – Austria's steepest slope adventure – and the Vans Penken Park with its cool areas and obstacles. On Ahorn guests can discover numerous insider tips: Café-Bistro Freiraum with its breathtaking location, the family-friendly pistes, the sun-drenched Ahorn Plateau and the White Lounge complete with Ice Bar and Igloo Hotel.

The new 3S Penkenbahn opened in December 2015 shows just how much fun it can be to ride a cable car in this day and age: 33 gondolas, each comprising 24 comfortable seats and wi-fi, convenient child-friendly access and above all an unusually high capacity of up to 3,840 people per hour on the downward run. Guests arrive on the Penken right at the heart of the skiing area in barely more than eight minutes. The new cable car is a key step towards a mountain experience that is entirely free of stress. There are new spacious ski depots at the bottom station and cable car station. The ski bus network has also been optimised to make it more convenient to get to the piste and back. Skiing and snowboarding in Mayrhofen is all about optimum flexibility. The bottom station at the heart of the town enables guests to go for a stroll, do some shopping or get a cup of coffee before spontaneously picking up their sports equipment from the depot, spending a few hours on the pistes and then heading back down to the village to meet up with friends for an après-ski session.

The new cable car brings a whole new level of excitement to Action Mountain Penken. It's now just a few minutes from the bustling centre of Mayrhofen to the coolest challenge in winter sports: the famous Harakiri – an absolutely perfect thrill with its 78 per cent gradient. Anyone able to handle the descent gets to wear the Harakiri-T-shirt. The second highlight on the Penken is Vans Penken Park – one of the best and most sought-after snow parks in the whole of Europe with its six different areas and numerous obstacles. Here beginners can take their time to practice in the Kids Park while pros perform their impressive tricks.

Skiers can now look forward to even more comfort and fun. From 15. December, Action Mountain Penken is adding yet another highlight: the new Möslbahn.

For many people it's love at second sight. Apparently unimposing at first as compared to the big 3,000-metre mountains in the background, it has astonishing qualities nonetheless. Leisure Mountain Ahorn is an absolute insider's tip. To get there from Mayrhofen you take the Ahornbahn – Austria's biggest cable car. At the top there is a sun-drenched plateau with a superb panorama, winter walks with breathtaking views, pistes for all the family and the Funslope for all ages and skill levels. Fun and variety are guaranteed off the piste here, too: the classic option is to enjoy regional specialities at Café-Bistro Freiraum in the Ahornbahn mountain station with a magnificent view of the 3,000-metre mountains. The Igloo Village White Lounge is the perfect spot to chill out during the day. In the evening it is transformed into an Igloo Hotel with comfortable suites amid the snow for a night under a sparkling canopy of stars – a truly unforgettable holiday experience in Mayrhofen.

Interested in finding out more? If so, be sure to mark the following dates in your calendar in red: Horbergbahn is the first cable car to open on December 5th. It is followed by Ahornbahn on December 19th, and the new Penkenbahn goes into operation for the first time on December 20th.

If you want to do it right, trust the professionals. Just another platitude? No way. It’s the key to success for everyone in search of sporting challenges and cool experiences. Action Mountain Penken and Leisure Mountain Ahorn are real pros and the ideal hot spots for adrenaline junkies of all ages and abilities. Apart from the ultra-steep Harakiri, the legendary Vans Penken Park as well as special racing and speed tracks, there are of course also energy-sapping descents, pistes for cruising and coasting as well as authentic Tyrolean mountain huts for regaining your strength in style.

Your first turns are still forceful and you give your skis free rein. But soon you become more cautious, and start feeling your way to the legendary piste turn by careful turn. And of course it’s not your run-of-the-mill descent. It’s the Harakiri – which demands respect since up to 78% gradient is only something absolute experts can master. For most skiers this is the highlight of the day or possibly of the whole winter vacation. At the Knorren chairlift bottom station you can see many happy, relieved and euphoric faces. They made it. “Brilliant! I have to do it again right away”, a visitor cries out. “I didn’t think about it too long and just went straight in. Then you don’t have to overcome any inhibitions when you get to the edge”, says another. The chairlift staff knows these reactions well. All day he witnesses the relaxed faces of skiers enjoying the moment of success after mastering the run. Every Friday from 1 to 3 pm, visitors can record this exhilarating experience at a photo shoot. The pictures can then be downloaded in print quality from the website online shop free of charge.

There’s no question about it. One thing skiers and snowboarders definitely won’t be on the Penken and that is bored. Whoever spends his winter vacation in Mayrhofen, has 136 piste kilometres and 57 lifts to choose from on Leisure Mountain Ahorn and Action Mountain Penken. The latter certainly lives up to its name. Apart from the Harakiri and its unbelievable gradient, Vans Penken Park is the place to be if you’re looking for action. It counts among the best snow parks in all of Europe and offers a great selection of different areas: Medium Area, Advanced Area, Pro Area, Fun Area and Advanced Kicker Area. Here everyone will find the perfect shapes and obstacles. The Sun-Jet 4-seater chairlift gives winter sports lovers fast access to the park and the perfect view for watching the pros shred the snow. At the Kids Park there is also the Mittertrett draglift for the up-and-comers. Every Tuesday and Saturday from 1 to 3 pm, visitors can take part in a free photo shoot here, too.

No one needs speed offenders on the piste. Especially not on the Penken since it offers speed junkies their very own areas. There are three free and specially prepared racing tracks in all, Unterberg I and II as well as the Hintertrett racing tracks at the Sun-Jet. In addition there’s also the free speed track at Gerent. What makes Mayrhofen’s pistes so special, are the excellent snow conditions. And it’s not only the location in the high altitude central Alps which is responsible for this, but above all also the sophisticated and extensive snow management. Perfectly prepared pistes every day and superb conditions well into spring – that’s what Mayrhofen is known for. Mayrhofen is also well-known for its marvellous valley run from Ahorn Mountain. A mammoth run of 5.5 km and 1,400 altitude meters takes you down into the valley on partially black-rated pistes. Last winter, sensationally good conditions still prevailed at the end of season on 12. April. Winter sports enthusiasts can always rely on unforgettable experiences in the snow in Mayrhofen. And now you can document all your happy moments in a very individual way. At the information cash desk at the Lärchwald chairlift bottom station, everyone can rent a helmet camera. When the camera is returned, the recordings can be burned onto a DVD straight away. This is surely the perfect holiday souvenir.
