Winter:

The tourist paradise “The First Holiday Region in Zillertal", with its well-known winter sport venues Fuegen/Hochfuegen and Kaltenbach is situated at the entrance of the Zillertal Valley, “The Most Active Valley of the World”. The region encompasses a total of 12 small villages, providing ideal surroundings and ski conditions for the discerning international guest.

Fantastic slopes way above the tree line with exhilarating runs. Revel in the snow-sure surroundings and maybe follow in the trail of local hero and Olympic Gold Medalist, Stephan Eberharter, the world famous skier after whom one of the runs has been named. Take a welcome break at any one of the many romantic ski huts or inviting guest houses in and around the slopes. The choice of winter sports activities is enormous and includes 70km of cross-country ski trails, numerous well cleared winter walkways, sleigh rides through the magical winter wonderland and various ice skating rinks.

The First Holiday Region in the Zillertal is home to twelve villages. These sunny places, situated in the broadest part of the valley, are the headquarters for your summer activities.

Summer Health Resorts and Mountain Sports
All those who care for fresh mountain air and Alpine sports take to the Zillertal and get inspired by the valley’s scenic beauty and exhilarating experience. Almost the only Tyrolean valley, benefiting from excellent transport connections, boasts over 1000 km of hiking trails as well as 850 km biking routes. Expeditions into the mountains are a feast for the senses, body and soul. Optionally you can be offered guided mountain and hiking tours. Such programs as „Gentle Running“ and „Nordic Walking“ are accompanied by coaches who supervise your training.

In sunny forests, around the brooks you enjoy noises of the nature. The smell of leaves, bushes and plants influences your sate of mind and let you forget the everyday life.

The twelve villages of the First Holiday Region offer not only on-mountains adventure, but also a wide range of activities in the valley itself: outdoor and indoor swimming pools, swimming lakes, tennis, beach volleyball, fitness, mini golf, archery range and golf driving range. Not to mention climbing, paragliding, hang gliding and rafting.

In summer children under 15 drive free with the Spieljochbahn lift in Fuegen. It brings you to the starting point of a great number of hiking routes around the Spieljoch, where you gaze unforgettable panoramic views. After 30 walking minutes, you reach probably the highest Austrian ore mine. Upon entering you feel sent back in time by several centuries.

Just for Kids
Here, in the First Holiday Region, we know how much fun it is to have vacations and we know it is even more fun when you are with family. That is why we put families first here. We offer a wide range of activities for the whole family: hiking through the forests, brooks and pastures; visiting farms; having fun at leisure parks and playgrounds. Hotels, campgrounds and villages of the valley offer special children and whole-family eventful programs entitled “Mega Hits for Kids”.

Traditions and Events
The Zillertal retains old customs and traditions as well as cultivates fine dining and festivities. The most authentic tradition is the so- called “Almabtrieb”. During summer, all over the alpine regions cow herds feed on alpine pastures high up in the mountains. In autumn, these herds are led to their stables down in the valley, in the Almabtrieb cow train.

Open-air concerts of the brass bands are very popular. But the Zillertal Valley provides also a more modern kind of entertainment. Thereto belong famous open-air concerts of local musicians and bands such as Zillertaler Schuerzenjaeger, Zellbergbuam’s Alp Party, Junge Zillertaler and Ursprung Buam. The valley offers also many places of interest and historic sites. To them belong a Museum of Mountain Farmers, Dairy, Speck Room, Ice House, FeuerWerk, Mine, Zillertal High Road.

Experience “Erlebnistherme Zillertal” - Thermal Spa of the Zillertal in Fuegen

Excitement, action and adventure! The new thermal spa lets everyone thrill with delight. Special attention was paid to fulfil the children’s wishes.
