Children and Families

Our guests often return to the Zillertal year after year, and many of our ‘regulars’ enjoy the comfort and familiarity of the same inn or hotel. There are some families who visit the Zillertal generation after generation. They realize that this valley has something special to offer guests both young and old.

Whether you’ve been a Zillertal fan for years or are here for the first time, you’ll soon discover that children and families are very important here. Children are warmly welcomed as guests in hotels and inns, while some ‘family hotels’ specialize in child and baby-friendly accommodations. With standard child-friendly accommodations and amenities (baby cot, high chair, child menus, etc.) and a special children’s activity team, these hotels ensure that there’s something to please every member of the family. Diverse leisure programmes keep the little ones busy as well. In addition, almost every town in the Zillertal has at least one playground and outdoor pool and there are always special events to keep children active, engaged and happy.

You are planning a holiday with your family? Here is what awaits you and your children in our valley:

Children on the Mountain

There is always a good reason to ride the gondola! Playgrounds and other attractions dot the landscape at many middle- and top-stations throughout the Zillertal. The Ice Palace on the Hintertux Glacier – with its ‘Gletscherflohpark’ (glacier flea park) – is quite popular. The top-station at the Spieljochbahn offers a children's climbing area, a barefoot walking path and monster scooters. Another highlight is the Adler Stage as well as the Sinnesspiele (sensing games) on the Ahorn in Mayrhofen. Children especially love the ‘Murmelland’ (groundhog land) natural adventure park on the Zillertaler Höhenstraße (Alpine scenic road).

Child Care

Are you on holiday with your children but would like to have a few hours to yourself? No problem! Simply ask your host or the local tourism office to help you find an experienced childcare provider. Mayrhofen has a guest kindergarten with day care for babies. The village of Tux has an entire Kinderland with professional care and a diversified activity programme. Also, the tourism offices in Zell, Mayrhofen and Fügen offer special children’s programmes in summer.

Teens

There is so much for teenagers to see and do in the Zillertal. The ‘M-Town-Bowl’ in Mayrhofen is the largest skateboard park in the Zillertal, while the Freizeitpark (leisure park) in Zell offers beach volleyball, an outdoor pool, a fun court, mini golf, tennis and much more. There is also a ‘Gotcha’ Park in the mountain village of Ginzling. In addition, Gerlos has a special programme where teenagers spend their free time called the ‘Teenie Action Programme’.

Children's Ski Classes

Skiing is not easy! Luckily, Zillertal ski schools are known for their quality instruction and attention to children. In every region of the Zillertal there are numerous ski schools that offer children's ski classes. After teaching the basic techniques of skiing, instructors place an emphasis on ensuring that children simply have fun. All ski areas offer considerably reduced ski pass prices for children and youth. The youngest skiers learn on flat beginner's hills.

Highlights for Children

Almost every town in the Zillertal has one or more playground. We recommend the nature playground ‘Wasserwelt Brindlang’ in Mayrhofen, with water activities and a mini golf course nearby. Other popular sites include the playground in Schlitters, constructed of natural, wood-carved structures, and the adventure playground in Zell. The ‘Erlebnisweg’ (adventure path) in Tux is a family-friendly hiking route which combines an easy valley hike with many play opportunities along the way. The Arena Coaster in Zell is the only summer alpine slide in the Zillertal.

Summer or winter, children will not be bored in the Zillertal. Most facilities and attractions offer a discount for children and free admission for youngsters up to six years of age. There are so many diverse programmes offered for families and children – from a steam train ride on the Zillertalbahn, adventures on the mountain and in the valley, sports attractions and professional, in-house child care. You’ll truly enjoy and relax during your holiday while your children embark on their own adventures. In the Zillertal, the care and well-being of our smallest guests is a priority: after all, they are the guests of the future.
